![]() For too long, women of color were an invisible consumer, no more. Former supermodel turned actress Iman, has remedied that condition forever. Unlike many cosmetic companies who simply expanded existing shade ranges in an effort to satisfy women of color, every item in the IMAN collection was specifically formulated for this growing market of women. Derived from Iman's personal and professional cosmetic experience, formulas were developed from a realistic standpoint, as only a woman of color would conceive. Now there is a vast variety of skin-tone and skincare they can rely on.
Iman is involved in every aspect of IMAN Cosmetics and Skincare business - Product development, package design, marketing, promotion and advertising. She has assembled a team of experts and advisors to ensure that her company utilizes the newest ingredients and advanced technology to develop superior products for women of color. IMAN redefines current cosmetic marketing terminology. Until now, terms such as 'women of color' and 'ethnic' have been associated with products developed for African American women. "I believe that women of color, are the women of the world - Native American, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, African and Middle Eastern. These women live right here in this country," Iman points out, "It's time to address the concerns of this "invisible" consumer because today's minorities are tomorrow's majority." Simply creating a makeup line was not enough for Iman, she believes that skincare is equally important. "Many women have become too dependent on color systems. If you can't walk out of the house without makeup and feel really good about your skin, you have problems," she says. "We have to start by dispelling the myths-we're not made of steel. Sunlight, pollution and stress affect our skin, too." Iman is striving to create an environment where education and communication become the focus. "I want the consumer to tell us what her needs are rather than us telling her what they ought to be," she points out. "My main goal is to eliminate the constraints associated with beauty. I'm not telling anyone that I can make them look like a model, but I can make them look their best."
